The Law Society of Manitoba does not formally accredit or pre-approve any programs for CPD reporting purposes, instead, it is up to practicing members to determine if a particular CPD activity meets our requirements, and if so they may report those CPD hours.
The Law Society of Ontario, Substantive Hours do not require accreditation. However, annually, lawyers should conduct their assessment and confirm that their CPD programs or eligible activities maintain or enhance their professional knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the context of their practice and professional development.
RCR, RPR, CLR Vice President Veritext Canada
Christy Pratt is the vice president of Veritext Canada, the national leader in legal technology and e-solutions. Prior to joining Veritext she was the owner of Reportex Agencies in British Columbia for over 15 years. Christy has been a realtime reporter for over 25 years, with a special interest in Indigenous rights/title and Charter challenge cases. Christy has reported several landmark trials, including William (Tsilhqot’in Nation), West Moberly (Treaty 8 Boundary), Cambie Surgeries, Thomas (Saik’uz/Stellat’en Nations) and the Cowichan Tribes.
Having worked on land claim trials for the majority of her 25-year court reporting career, Indigenous language is a topic that is particularly close to Christy’s heart. She has worked with hundreds of elders, community members and traditional word spellers, and she collaborates with counsel to create alignment between the parties and the court reporter on spelling and style protocols.
As an expert in realtime reporting and the transcription of Indigenous language, Christy regularly presents webinars on the benefits of realtime, how to effectively conduct an electronic trial and best practices for capturing oral Indigenous testimony.
Lead Solutions Consultant Thomson Reuters Case Center
Betty Montoni is the Lead Solutions Consultant for Case Center at Thomson Reuters. She coordinates the implementation of Case Center across multiple courts, government agencies, and law firms around the globe. As a liaison between Thomson Reuters’ sales professionals and customers, Betty provides extensive knowledge and information to clients regarding Thomson Reuters’ legal solutions.
She has over two decades of legal experience working in law firms, legal technology, and eDiscovery and has presented on the topic of eDiscovery and Case Center at numerous conferences throughout her career, and she is accredited as a Certified eDiscovery Specialist and Certified Case Center Specialist.
National Account Executive Thomson Reuters Case Center
Ryan Snushall is the Canadian National Account executive for Case Center (formerly Caselines). He supports courts and tribunals with their modernization and digitization projects in the area of digital evidence platforms. His work in this area extends further to supporting law firms and legal departments as well. Ryan has worked with Thomson Reuters for 10 years and spent the previous 9 years in the technology department of Canada’s largest Intellectual Property boutique.
Aside from working directly with courts and law firms, Ryan regularly attends webinars in the court modernization space, has written or contributed to white papers on the subject, and has spoken at conferences about Case Center and the topic of digital courts.
Principal K M E Dispute Resolution
Kristine has practiced civil litigation in Alberta for over 23 years at major national firms. She was the litigation leader of the Calgary Litigation Department and then the National Litigation Department of Fraser Milner Casgrain for many years. She was appointed to Queen’s Counsel in 2004 and she served as a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta for 15 years between 2007 and 2022.
While on the Court, Kristine sat on a large variety of cases in the general jurisdiction of the superior court of Alberta (now known as the Court of King’s Bench). More specifically, she was assigned to the specialized Commercial court and sat on, and case-managed, multiple oil and gas, mining, corporate and construction cases. As a judge, Kristine regularly conducted Judicial Dispute Resolution (JDR) sessions, was a member of the JDR Committee, and was involved in training new judges. Before being appointed, she was involved as a litigator at the outset of developing alternative dispute resolution both privately and through the Court (mini-trials and mediations). She used these methods of dispute resolution for her clients on hundreds of occasions and was a great proponent of their use. She took several levels of customized mediation and negotiation training between 1995 and 2002. Kristine conducted over 40 trials and multiple appeals at all levels of the Court (including the Supreme Court of Canada) in matters about her practice while a litigator.
